Who We Are
Horizons Verts is a Non-Governmental Development Organization (NGDO) working at the intersection of climate action, sustainable development, and community empowerment.
Founded by Congolese lawyers and agroforestry engineers, the organization was created in response to the urgent need to combat the climate crisis through innovative and inclusive solutions.
Our mission is to promote a sustainable development model that harmonizes food security, natural resource governance, and ecosystem protection — ensuring that both people and the planet thrive together.
Officially recognized by the Congolese government through Ministerial Decree N°130/CAB/M.E/MIN/J§GS/2022 of August 22, 2022, Horizons Verts has built strong foundations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is now expanding its footprint across Africa, with a new regional base in Kenya — a global leader in environmental and climate governance.
Our Focus Areas
At Horizons Verts, we take a holistic approach to sustainability — addressing the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of development. Our programs are designed to protect nature, empower communities, and promote responsible use of resources through five key areas of action.
Forests & Ecosystems
Protecting biodiversity and managing community forests.
Agroecology & Food Security
Promoting sustainable farming and agroforestry.
Natural Resource Governance
Strengthening transparency in forests, water, land, and mining.
Education & Eco-Citizenship
Raising awareness in communities and schools.
Green Infrastructure
Advancing renewable energy, reforestation, and green spaces.
Geographic Reach
Horizons Verts operates across Central and East Africa, driving sustainable development and environmental governance from the grassroots level to international platforms.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
Our national headquarters are based in Kinshasa (Limete), coordinating projects that strengthen community management of natural resources and biodiversity protection. Our first pilot site in Haut-Uélé (Isiro) focuses on community forest concessions, agroforestry, and environmental education. We are also expanding into Équateur, Kongo Central, and Kwango, where we are conducting feasibility and socio-economic studies for large-scale sustainability programs.
In Kenya
As one of Africa’s environmental pioneers, Kenya serves as our strategic development hub — connecting local initiatives with global climate networks and international organizations. From Nairobi, we coordinate partnerships, training, and policy dialogue that amplify our regional influence and support our vision for a greener Africa.
By working across these regions, Horizons Verts is building a bridge between local community action and global climate goals, ensuring that environmental progress is inclusive, collaborative, and lasting.
Our latest Projects

Since its inception, Horizons Verts has transformed its vision into action through measurable achievements that support both people and the planet. Every project we undertake is guided by our mission to restore ecosystems, empower communities, and promote responsible governance of natural resources.
Our initiatives combine research, innovation, and collaboration to deliver lasting results. From reforestation and eco-education to policy engagement and international advocacy, we are driving meaningful change across Africa.
Community Forests and Ecosystem Protection
Established Community Forest Concessions (CFCL) in Haut-Uélé (Niangara and Watsa), ensuring local communities actively participate in the sustainable management of forest resources.
Scientific and Socio-Economic Studies
Conducted multi-resource assessments and socio-economic studies in Mankanza (Équateur), and feasibility studies for new CFCL sites in Kongo Central, Équateur (peatlands), and Kwango — strengthening data-driven environmental governance.
Reforestation and Urban Greening
Planted over 1,500 trees at the University of Kinshasa and supported urban greening projects that improve local biodiversity and air quality.
Education and Eco-Citizenship
Launched school-based awareness campaigns that have reached over 5,000 students in Kinshasa, inspiring young people to adopt sustainable habits and champion environmental stewardship.

Represented the DRC and Africa in global environmental forums such as COP28 – Dubai (2023), and organized national events like the World Tree Day Conference at the University of Kinshasa.
Media and Public Engagement
Led impactful radio, TV, and publication campaigns promoting climate action, sustainable resource management, and eco-friendly lifestyles.
Together, these milestones reflect our growing footprint in climate and sustainability work — and our commitment to creating a future where communities and nature thrive in harmony.
Partnerships
At Horizons Verts, we believe that lasting environmental change is only possible through strong partnerships and shared commitment. Collaboration lies at the heart of everything we do — from grassroots projects to global advocacy.
We work closely with government institutions, academic organizations, international agencies, and civil society networks to create synergies that enhance our reach and impact. These partnerships enable us to share knowledge, mobilize resources, and implement projects that make a real difference for communities and ecosystems.
National Partnerships (DRC)
We collaborate with key ministries including the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Planning, as well as with the GTCRR Network and the University of Kinshasa. Together, we develop research-based programs, promote community-led conservation, and strengthen national policies for sustainable resource management.
International Partnerships
Our growing international network includes organizations such as FAO, Nature+, Rainforest Trust, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (as an Observer), and the Swiss Embassy. Through these alliances, Horizons Verts contributes to global environmental dialogues, exchanges best practices, and secures technical and financial support for its regional initiatives.
By uniting expertise and vision across borders, Horizons Verts continues to build a coalition for sustainability, empowering communities while advancing global climate goals.
